Traditional Worship Service

8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.

First United Methodist Church offers two traditional worship services every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

The services are led by several ministers on our staff. The services include scripture, prayer, singing of well-loved hymns, a time for children, baptisms, and a sermon . Children's church is held in our sanctuary once a month during the 11:00 a.m. worship except on Communion Sundays.

On the first Sunday of the month we join in Holy Communion.

At the 8:30 a.m. service, singing is led on alternate weeks by the Sanctuary Choir, a group of about forty adults.

On one Sunday each month our three children’s choirs (FUMC Choir Boys, FUMC Choir Girls and FUMC Chapel Choir) and our youth choir (FUMC Wesley Singers) fill the choir loft. On other Sundays we feature ensembles from the Chancel Choir.

At the 11:00 a.m. service, singing is led by our exceptional Chancel Choir, a group of ninety people that has toured all over the world. This choir is one of the finest church choirs in the country.

Our traditional services also feature music by our hand bell groups, vocal soloists, a brass ensemble and other instrumental musicians; and our organist leads hymn singing on the wonderful Forrest Memorial Pipe Organ.

Our services offer great opportunities to experience the presence of God, meet the members of our church and hear about our many ministries. Our services are for all ages and families are encouraged to come and worship together. A nursery is provided.

First United Methodist has long been a leader in offering the best traditional worship services in the country. Seeking to expand its ministry and provide grace filled environments in which Christ transforms lives, First Church joins a growing number of churches offering a weekly contemporary worship service. Beginning at 9:30 a.m. this service is called The First Light Worship Hour.

The First Light Worship Hour is a time of praise, ministry and teaching. This service features relevant messages, modern music by current Christian song writers, and great hymn texts arranged in a fresh way. The music is led by the First Light Band, a group of some of the finest professional musicians in this area who also have a heart for service and ministry.

Each service concludes with the sacrament of Holy Communion, which in the Methodist Church anyone can participate. This service is less formal and dress is casual. It meets in the Great Hall of the Christian Life Center (CLC). This space features two large video screens and a stage with the latest in video, sound, lighting and computer technology.
