Dr. Keith Wiseman

Dr. Keith Wiseman was appointed associate pastor at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock on January 1, 1995. This is his tenth appointment covering over forty-six years of ministry in the Northwest Texas Annual Conference. He retired from the conference in 2000, but still serves part time at FUMC in pastoral care: visiting hospitals, shut-ins, and nursing homes. Keith has an unusual gift of dealing with persons in need. He officiates weddings when requested, assists with worship services, and officiates funerals of many with whom he has worked as pastor care giver.
Keith was born in Hartley, Texas. He graduated from Dumas High School, McMurry University in Abilene with a B.A. degree, Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, with a master of theology degree. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in l988 from McMurry University. He served many years on the board of directors of the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. He also served on the board of trustees for McMurry University.
Keith is married to Nancy, a retired schoolteacher. They have three daughters: Karla, Karyn, and Kim, and five grandchildren. Karla and Kim are also schoolteachers and Karyn, a United Methodist minister, has her Ph.D. from Drew School of Theology and teaches preaching liturgy at Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia.
Keith has served for many years in the conference camping program working with both youth and adult camping programs. He directed “Youth in Dialogue Youth Camp for 10 years, and Senior Adult Camp at Butman for five years.He teaches adult Sunday school classes every Sunday and also teaches the Men’s Thursday Morning Bible Study/Prayer Group every week. He is currently a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He often joins the FUMC youth on their winter skiing retreat.
The Wisemans love to travel and visit family. He plays golf and is an avid reader. And as finally the owner of their own home, he is learning the art of yard keeping and home ownership.
