EVENSONG AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Evensong is a service that originated in the ancient offices (daily prayer services) of the church.  It combines the traditions of two offices: Vesper (Evening Prayer) which uses the Magnificat as a canticle and Compline (Close of Day Service) which uses the Nunc Dimittis as a canticle.  Traditionally, the choir offers the canticles, psalms, and motets while the congregation joins in the hymns and responses.  During the last century, Evensong has emerged as a liturgy of rare and mystical beauty in which the Word is illuminated by music.  It is sung regularly in churches throughout the country and daily in many places in England.

Music for our thirty minute Evensong Services is led by Choro Andro, our unique men’s voices choir.
