Every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday, FUMC provides a free nutritious meal for an average of 150 families and individuals. That’s over 23,000 meals each year! Methodist Children’s Home is a non-profit child care ministry affiliated with the seven United Methodist Annual Conferences of Texas and New Mexico. MCH provides case management services to families to prevent children from coming into foster care or residential care. In Lubbock, MCH has designed a program specifically to support grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
FUMC takes an active role in addressing the problem of homelessness through Family Promise. Four times each year, we provide overnight shelter and meals for clients of the Family Promise ministry. We need volunteers to bring evening meals, supervise the day house on the weekends, or spend one night at the church as an overnight host. Next Family Promise rotation: October 18-25, 2009.
Asbury UMC is a small but growing congregation located in a vibrant, multicultural area of the city. On August 29, 2009, we will partner with Asbury for a day of outreach and worship in the Heart of Lubbock Neighborhood. We need volunteers for this event! National Charity League connects young women to local community service opportunities. NCL volunteers serve at FUMC programs throughout the year, including Second Helpings, Angel Food Ministries and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
Chartered in 1924, FUMC’s Scout Troop 402 is the oldest troop in the South Plains Council. An estimated 1,500 young men have been part of Troop 402 and the troop has produced 124 Eagle Scouts. The program develops leadership, personal responsibility and physical fitness in tomorrow’s leaders. Meetings are held on Thursday nights in the Outreach Center, Cub Scouts at 7:00 p.m. and Boy Scouts at 7:30 p.m.
United Methodist Women helps women know God, experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, develop supportive fellowship and actively participate in the global ministries of the church. Women of all ages and backgrounds are invited to join a UMW small group. Groups meet at various times throughout the week.
WE-CAN, Inc. brings faith-based organizations and social service agencies under one roof to minister to the homeless, marginalized, and working poor through case management, prayer and education. FUMC hosts this collaborative, one-stop-shop service on site at Second Helpings every Tuesday.
This fall we will build our 13th home for a deserving local family! FUMC provides financial support, construction expertise, and volunteer labor to construct a house with Lubbock Habitat for Humanity. You don’t need any construction experience to participate. Angel Food Ministries is a nation-wide co-op that purchases food in bulk and distributes it to families in need through partners like FUMC. A $30 contribution buys a box of food that can feed a family of 4 for a week. A booklet explaining the gospel is included with every food box. The United Methodist Women at FUMC take the lead in this important ministry, but you don’t need to be a UMW member to participate.
