Merriman Choral Scholarships at FUMC
First United Methodist
Church has two scholarships available during the
2009-2010 season for singers who are full time Music
Majors* at undergraduate or graduate level.
These scholarships have been
made possible by a generous bequest from the estate of
Edwin Merriman, long-time choir member at First United
Methodist Church.
MERRIMAN
CHORAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2010-2011
Two
scholarships available, one woman, one man.
$25 for
each rehearsal, service or concert performance, with a total
of $1250 per semester ($2500 per year). Choral scholars
will be expected to maintain an attendance of 90% during the
semester, and will be paid for the times when they are
present.
An
additional $500 is available (within a year) for singing on
occasions outside the university semesters, making the total
possible scholarship $3000 per year.
Scholarships are awarded for one semester initially and are
renewable each semester, conditional on the choral scholar
having satisfied the requirements of the previous semester.
The choral
scholars will be required to sing at our 8.30am and 10.50am
services each Sunday, at a few other special services, and
at concert appearances. The schedule will be published in
full before the semester begins.
Our regular
weekly schedule is
Monday
(twice a month only) 5.50pm - 6.45pm
Wednesday
7.15pm – 9.00pm
Sunday
7.45am (or 8.00am) rehearsal for 8.30am service and 10.00am
rehearsal for 10.50am service.
Applicants
will be required to audition for the choral scholarships.
The audition will assess vocal tone and range, and
sight-reading ability.
