It is with great
pride and excitement that the Music
Department of First United Methodist
Church of Lubbock, Texas announces
the continuation of a major national
competition for young organists.
This competition was begun in April
2002 and is being held now for the
third time.
The competition is
made possible by a very generous
bequest of Mr. J. Roy Wells and his
wife, Mrs. Fray Stallings Wells.
Mr. and Mrs. Wells were long-time
members of First United Methodist
Church and were very active in their
encouragement of the Music
Ministry. Their financial support
extended to the greater Lubbock
community and they also endowed a
scholarship in Organ and Piano
Performance at Texas Tech
University. As the Wells have left
a legacy of encouragement for young
artists, it is the hope of First
United Methodist Church that this
competition, in their name, will
continue their dream.
All questions regarding the Wells
Competition for Young Organists may
be directed to
Christopher Betts, Director of
Music, at First United Methodist
Church (806) 763-0781.
