Christopher Betts,
Director Music,

Christopher Betts has
been Director of Music at First United Methodist
Church since 2004 and director of the Chancel Choir
since 2001. His role at the church includes
overseeing all the activities of the busy Music
Department, and directing four of the church's
choirs. He was a boy chorister at Lichfield
Cathedral in England, and a music graduate and organ
scholar of Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1994
he married his wife, Sunny, a Lubbock native and
member of FUMC Chancel Choir. They lived
together in England for seven years, before moving
back to Lubbock. He has directed and
accompanied some of the finest British choirs,
performed on national radio and television, and has
been featured as organ soloist with the Lubbock
Symphony Orchestra. He is a Fellow of the
Royal College or Organists, and Adjunct Professor of
Organ at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview,
TX.

Eric Posada, Assistant
Director of Music

Eric returns to Lubbock
to commence work on his Doctor of Musical Arts
degree at Texas Tech University (TTU) under the
tutelage of Dr. Rick Bjella. He recently completed
his Master of Music degree in May 2009 from Sam
Houston State University (SHSU) in Huntsville, TX
where he was a Graduate Assistant of Dr. Allen
Hightower. During his tenure at SHSU, Eric was also
the Head Choir Director at Faith Lutheran Church.
Prior to that, Eric successfully taught for two
years at Brownsville I.S.D., one year each at the middle
school level and the high school levels, and was
also the Head Choir Director at First United
Methodist Church in Mission, TX. Eric received his
Bachelor of Music degree from TTU in 2003 where his
conducting teachers were Dr. John Dickson, Dr.
Pamela Elrod, and Gary Lewis. Other prominent
musical mentors for Eric have been Dr. Kenneth
Davis, Paul Salamunovich, and Dr. Joseph
Flummerfelt.

Sigurd Øgaard, Organist

Sigurd M. Øgaard was
born in Bergen, Norway, in 1978, and started playing
the organ with his uncle in 1988. He received
his Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance / Choral
Conducting from the Grieg Academy in Bergen in 2002,
his master's in Choral Conducting from Texas Tech
University in 2004, and has also studied with Piet
Kee (the Netherlands) and David Saint (England).
He has recently completed a doctorate in Choral
Conducting at Texas Tech.

Denise Caspell,
Director of Handbells
Denise Caspell has been
the director of the Sanctuary Ringers adult handbell
choir since 2001, and founded the Cathedral Ringers
children handbell choir in 2004. She began playing
handbells at Trinity United Methodist Church
handbell choirs in Arlington, Texas, in 1984 and has
enjoyed being part of handbell choirs ever since.
Denise also has a musical history, having played the
trumpet from youth through college bands, including
the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Tech
University. She graduated from Texas Tech
University with a Bachelor's Degree in Design
Communication. Denise is married to her husband,
Jon, and together they have three children: Taylor,
Cameron, and Lauren.
