Dr. Seung-Won Cho

An active conductor and organist, Dr. Cho serves as Director of Traditional Music Ministries and Senior Organist at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock.
Prior to his appointment at FUMC, he served as Minister of Music and Organist at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA, Assistant Director of Music and Organist at First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, IL, and Director of Music and Organist at Christ Lutheran Church in Austin. In addition to the music ministries, Dr. Cho also held positions in academia as accompanying faculty at the University of Texas, Austin, Assistant Director of Varsity Men’s Glee Club at the University of Illinois, and Artistic Director of Men’s Chorus at Virginia Tech. Dr. Cho has appeared at Roanoke Symphony Orchestra’s Destination Concert series as concert organist.
A native of Seoul, South Korea, Seung-Won was raised in a pious Christian family. He earned a Bachelor of Music in church music with an emphasis on choral conducting and organ performance at Yonsei University, Korea, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. After serving three years in the military, he came to the United States in 2005 to pursue his graduate studies in conducting. His alma maters in the States include the University of Texas at Austin for a Master of Music in Choral Conducting. He also attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Choral Literature.
Dr. Cho is married to his wife and best friend, Eun-Young Jung. They have 5-year-old twin boys, Yeha and Yeho and 2-year-old daughter, Yerim.
Besides music ministry activities, Dr. Cho likes cooking, hiking, biking, and playing with his children at the playground.
